Buenos Aires, November 26 (NA) - The last meeting of River Plate's Board of Directors has sparked controversy over the title awarded to Rosario Central as 2025 League Champion. The club's 2nd Vice President, Ignacio Villarroel, detailed how the trophy was delivered to the Rosarian team and denied the official version that pointed to a unanimous decision by the Executive Committee, as reported by Noticias Argentinas agency. According to Villarroel, the meeting in Puerto Madero was not an AFA Executive Committee meeting, but an informal gathering of the Professional League without an agenda and of an informative nature. "It is misinformed. It was not an AFA Executive Committee meeting. It was an informal meeting of the Professional League," clarified the executive. Minutes later, the presentation of the cup to Ángel Di María and the Rosarian delegation was made without consultations, votes, or consent. "At the end of the meeting, without putting it to a vote, it was mentioned that a recognition would be made for Rosario Central. This later transformed, without any expression of will, into what was the delivery of the cup," detailed Villarroel. In turn, the "Canalla"'s triumph opened the door to possible claims, where Vélez has already hinted at the chance to request recognition for having led the 2024 annual table, while River could claim the titles corresponding to 2021 and 2023. Additionally, he explained that the main reason for the meeting was to present how the 2026 calendar will be organized. However, at the end and without submitting it to a vote, it was announced to those present that there would be a recognition for Rosario Central for having led the annual table.
